Seestar S50 sample gallery
The Seestar S50 smart telescope can be used in many different ways. Some amateurs take it to its limits - they combine exposures of many hours with advanced
image processing attempting to rival the output of classic astrophotography setups. Other users simply take the pictures that come straight out of the Seestar app
and share them on social media, with only a slight touch-up or no processing at all.
To us, the Seestar is neither an astrophotography rig nor a simple EAA tool. It is a category of its own, a stand-alone device for easy imaging of interesting and
often fleeting astronomical events. Comets, asteroids, supernovae in distant galaxies and variable stars can be captured effortlessly. With a weight of only 3kg, the
S50 is highly portable. Also, it is up and running in a few minutes. The scale of 2.4“/pixel gives a great resolution and from a rural site the device reaches 17mag
with a 30 minute exposure.
In 2024, we tested and used the Seestar S50 extensively. For all images, we use the FITS-stacks that come out of the device and only do some pretty basic
processing with Siril, PS and GraXpert. This brings out faint details, renders colors nicely, gets rid of the noise and usually takes no more than a few minutes.
Here we present a sample gallery of images that shows what can be achieved with the S50 with this minimal image processing.
